August DickmanAugust Dickman

Killed on November 27, 1913

Officer Dickman was assigned to the night shift. on November 27, 1913 Dickman was near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Court Street when he was alerted to a disturbance. Five men were surrounding Archie Hutchins, who was armed with a pistol. Hutchins fired two rounds in the air. As Dickman made his way across the street Hutchins ran to the corner where Hutchins swung around a telephone pole and fired another shot. The shot struck Dickman in the chest, killing him. Dickman was survived by his wife, Bessie (Vickery) Dickman, he had no children.



George Lezotte

Died on November 17, 1962

Officer Lezotte was assigned to traffic control for a fire scene. A fire burned the Lassers Furniture Company on South Schuyler Avenue. While performing his duty Officer Lezotte collapsed. Officer Lezotte was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital where he died. Officer Lezotte was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille (Jarvis) Lezotte. They had two sons, George Jr. (Who later became Kankakee Police officer and has since retired at the rank of Lieutenant) and Russell. George had 5 daughters, Mrs. Robert Glassford, Mrs Richard Harper, Mrs Donald Eastman, Mrs Donald Moody and Miss Lynn Lezotte.




Anthony R "Tony" Samfay

Killed on October 17, 1996

Officer Samfay was assigned to the second shift. While on duty Officer Samfay conducted a traffic stop on Fair St. near Greenwood Avenue. During that stop Samfay was shot and killed in front of a loaded school bus . This case has been tried and Eric Lee was convicted. The death penalty verdict was issued. Officer Samfay was not married.
